let's get this show on the road!

greetings,
i hope everyone is making the best out of 09 so far! we're getting ready to hit the road for a short trip out to California and back, and wanted to drop a line before we left. the kind people over at Noise Pop have invited us up to San Francisco to play their annual music festival and we've been able to add a few shows a long the way. this will be our first time out of Texas and we're all pretty exited about the shows, seeing old friends, and making new ones! the dates are as follows, if we're playing in your town come out and say hi!

10pm. Dive Bar

feb22nd. Los Angeles, Ca.
1pm. Space 15 Twenty {{day show}}

feb25th. San Francisco, Ca.

feb26th. Oakland, Ca.
9pm. Ghost Town Gallery

in other news-

-we've forged a couple of new axes from the fires of Valhalla. Dan completed his tri-fecta of L6s' with this sweet tobacco burst finished beauty,

and we scored a killer sounding SB300 for Nico to rearrange your insides with.

what can i say, we love the old Gibsons!

-Exploding in Sound has a new FREE compilation available for download HERE, and they were gracious enough to include our track "Duelist" on it. it has 19 songs total and comes with artwork and info on each band, pretty cool! you can find out more about it at explodinginsound.com.

-keep an out for an interview we're just now finishing up with Bob Morgan over at ScenePointBlank.com, and a small feature from weshotjr.com.

-last but definitely not least,
we just got word that the VINYL is on it's way! we'll have a limited # of copies for our west coast trip and more waiting for us when we get home. i'll post all the details once we have them in hand.

to everyone who has been faithfully holding out for a copy of the album on vinyl, your days of forbearance are almost over! thank you all very much for your patience!!

Recapitulation {goodbye 08.:.hello 09}

it's been a good year and a great start for the band. we've put together some album reviews, playlist/podcasts that were kind enough to include us, and links to some of the bands we had the pleasure of playing with for anyone that's interested in those sorts of things.

REVIEWS-

"True Widow crafts a record so subtle in its arrangement and melodies that listeners do not immediately realize just how catchy it is." -ScenePointBlank

"Hauntingly beautiful and brutal, but never unmelodic, the Matt Pence-produced True Widow is a debut of rare sonic depth and magnitude." -Dallas Observer 2008 Top 20 Local Albums {#9}

"Late in the game and without warning"..."distills the best of the past three decades into one patient, ageless, and accessible rock refresher. Possibly the best rock Texas has offered since Bedhead" -Crawdaddy 2008 Top 10 {#1}

"It’s a rare delight to hear such a record - one that draws you in from start to finish - but this is just that. For a trio, they sound massive." -Issue Oriented

"Long a fan of the genre, I’ve listened to plenty of bands like this that weren’t worth my time to know that True Widow offer something more" -Tangzine

"Dallas' own True Widow has, well, basically come out of nowhere in the past couple months to fill the surprisingly heavy void within the city's scene--and fill it quite capably, thanks."..."This is a heavy, slow-moving, and, at times, crushingly brutal record." -Dallas Observer

"On occasion I’m left blown away...this happened recently with the band True Widow" -Pasta Primavera

album credits {expanded}

thank you to everyone that had a hand in helping us make this record happen. we've pulled a little information together below, in case anyone would like to take a minute and find out more about those involved.

COVER: oil on canvas: by Daniel Albrigo.
a tattoo artist currently living and working in New York City. he spends a majority of his free time painting and works with several different mediums.

RECORDING: by Matt Pence at the Echo Lab.
he has an incredible ear and was really great to work with in the studio. when he's not recording for others he's playing drums for the bands Centro-matic and South San Gabriel, or scratching his itchy trigger finger with a camera.

PATTERNS: by Lance Patterson.
An instructor I had at North Bennet Street School. He is the finest craftsman I have ever known. A true natural. Aside from furniture making, he plays the violin, the saw and the piano, and makes these amazing drawings. They are all about 18" x 18", done with a pen and a straight edge (there are no curved lines) . He just sits down and goes at it. To see them in person is really the only way to truly appreciate the skill involved. Most of the drawings he has were done in the 1970s. Lance is one of the most interesting people I have met in my entire life.
- D.:H:.

BAND PHOTO: by Steven Visneau.
aside from having a great photo-eye, he is an awesome drummer that has played in numerous bands including Slowride. he's also a very proud papa.

True Widow LETTERING: by Tony Hundahl.
i don't know where to start with this guy! he's a really good friend and tattooer who lives in Austin, TX. and works his craft at Rock of Ages Tattoo.

INTERIOR PHOTOS: by D.H. Phillips.
for as long as i've know dan he's continually impressed me with his take on the world around us and the different ways he expresses those views and observations for others to experience. whether it's song writing or sounds, a canvas, wall or piece of paper, film, food, or a joke, i can always count on him to make it interesting. oh, and he's pretty handy with a moulding plane as well!

RELEASED: by End Sounds.
last but not least, many thanks go out to Jonathan Gill (aka. J.Gilbert, Jgill, smiley) for believing in the sound and trusting in the songs!

free download from last.fm

we recently set up a profile on last.fm and are now offering a track you won't find on the album as a free download! the song is called "I.N.O." and was recorded with the rest of the songs at the demo stage, but we were not able to redo it for the album. we also placed "Old Love" on the demonstration playlist because we really like both of these songs and think they sound pretty cool the way they are.

on the playlist for the debut album there are 2 additional songs not found on myspace, "Flat Black" and "Corpse Master".
enjoy,

((({{{I.N.O.}}})))

now's your chance to hear the album in it's entirety before the release! punknews.org has it streaming for a limited time. you can listen here.

audio snippets & CDs

let me just say up front that i'm not a big fan of the audio snippet. i find them to be frustrating and usually misleading. that being said, amazon has listed our album for pre-sale and you can check it out here if you feel inclined to do so. there's a short description, cover art, track listing, and yes even some of those pesky snippets to tease your ears.

we received our 1st batch of CDs this week. after looking at and listening to all the pieces for the last few months, it's pretty cool to have it all put together! we will have them available at up coming shows as well as the new shirt designs, so come see our set and pick up a few things before you leave.

just a heads up-
we're gathering some additional information for everyone that had a hand in the making of the album, and will be posting it here in the next few of weeks.
